The Toshiba conventional simulator is capable of all the same movements as our two linear accelerator treatment units. Having the same geometry as the treatment units allows the therapist to verify the patient's exact treatment setup with clear diagnostic type images, to assure that the patient is being treated in the planned anatomical area with minimal normal tissue treatment.
The simulator is a specially designed x-ray machine that is capable of changing its configuration to mimic the geometry of the linear accelerator treatment machines. In the simulator room, your treatment positioning devices (masks, mold, ect.) will be constructed and your skin may be marked as necessary for daily setup or field shapes. The Toshiba simulator will allow the physician to examine internal structures using fluoroscopy, and the radiation therapist will take x-ray pictures of your treatment fields.
